Frequently Asked Questions
Common Questions
What are mineral rights?
Mineral rights are the legal right to extract and profit from resources below the surface of a property — including oil, natural gas, coal, and other minerals. They can be owned separately from the surface land itself.
How is the value of my mineral rights determined?
Value depends on factors like current and historical production, remaining estimated reserves, nearby drilling activity, lease terms, and commodity prices. We provide a free, personalized valuation based on your specific property.
Do I have to sell all of my mineral rights?
No. Partial sales are common — many owners sell a portion of their interest for immediate cash while retaining the rest.
Is selling better than leasing or collecting royalties?
It depends on your goals. A lump-sum sale eliminates the risk of production decline, commodity price swings, and operator changes in exchange for an upfront payment. Leasing or holding royalties can pay more over the very long run if production stays strong, but comes with ongoing uncertainty.
How long does the process take?
Most transactions close within 30–45 days once you accept an offer.
Are there any fees?
No. We do not charge fees or commissions — the offer you accept is the amount you receive, minus any existing liens on the property.
What states do you buy in?
We currently buy mineral rights in Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Louisiana, and New Mexico.
Will selling affect my taxes?
Selling mineral rights can have tax implications, including capital gains considerations. We are not tax advisors — we recommend consulting a qualified tax professional or attorney about your specific situation.
What if I inherited my mineral rights?
Many of our sellers inherited their interest and aren’t sure what it’s worth or how to manage it. We can help you understand your options, including guidance on locating the original documentation if needed.
